Victory Over Miners Takes Asheville to 34-20
|
The Asheville Highlanders got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Vicente Molina, but it was good enough for the club to take a 3-2 decision over the Marquette Miners. Molina, now 3-7, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. With the victory, the Highlanders record now stands at 34-20.
Virgil Guldenmond put Asheville in front, 3-0, when he hit a 2-run home run off Greg Borges in the top of the first. It was his 9th home run of the season.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Asheville manager William Franklin.
