Valencia Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Minnesota in Walk-Off Win
|
The Providence Pilgrims got a superb performance from pitcher Ernesto García, but the Minnesota Loons still won the game, 4-3. García was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball. Minnesota reliever Jerry Williams got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Javier Fierro was tagged with the loss. Minnesota is now riding a 3-game win streak.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Tobias Valencia came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing Providence pitcher Javier Fierro, he hit a full count slider for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Minnesota on top, 4-3.
"Exhilarating win," said Valencia.
