Highlanders Dump Pilgrims, 11-7
|
Asheville and Providence met at Field of Plenty in front of a lively crowd.
The Asheville Highlanders defeated the Providence Pilgrims, 11-7, at Field of Plenty. Dusan Kontic was named player of the game for Asheville. His 4 hits included 3 singles and 1 double, in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Asheville reliever Vincent Hubbard picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Javier Fierro was saddled with the loss.
Asheville used the timely hitting of Anthony Hollis to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Highlanders on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll savor this win," Kontic told the Asheville Bulletin, "then get ready for the next game."
The Highlanders bumped their record to 20-14 with this latest triumph.
