Escribano Helps Pierogis Run Win Streak to 4
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis knocked off the Asheville Highlanders, 8-2, at Asheville Park. Luis Escribano, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Squirrel Hill won. The shortstop went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Javier Vallejo was the winner. Over 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The third-place Pierogis have won 4 straight games.
Squirrel Hill used the timely hitting of Franck Morel to capture the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Pierogis on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Escribano said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
