Hops Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
The Yakima Hops dealt the Squirrel Hill Pierogis a 5-3 loss at Field of the Rawhides. Tokaji Heida was the star on offense. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Walt McPike, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 2-0. Batu Khan earned the save, his 5th.
Yakima used the timely hitting of Juan Fuentes to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Hops on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We've got a great group of guys," Heida said, "and we're having fun right now."
The Hops, now 7-2, have been on a roll in the early going.
