Battery Jolt Evergreens with Late Rally

The Charleston Battery defeated the Portland Evergreens, 4-3, in United States Premier League action at Charleston Armory, with Charleston pitcher Miguel Angel Martínez named player of the game. Martín García, credited with the win, is now 3-4. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 2.2 innings. Henry Henry picked up the save for Charleston, his 1st of the year.
Had Torajiro Ogawa not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Ogawa hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Battery.
"I like what I saw today," said Charleston manager Matt Hunt, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The 7th-place Battery have won 4 in a row.
