Starks Come Back Late, Nip Redlegs
|
Sacramento got a terrific performance from pitcher José Valdéz, but it wasn't enough to beat the Syracuse Starks. Syracuse won the Sacramento Sanitation Station contest, 4-3. Valdéz was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings allowing 3 runs. The win was Jeffery Brock's in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Tom King took the loss for Sacramento. Greg O'Day closed it out for his 2nd save.
Syracuse used the bat of Cisco Feijoo to capture the win. The third baseman jacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Starks ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"I was a little disappointed," said Sacramento manager Marshall Edwards. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
Syracuse is in 9th place in the Premier AAA with a record of 41-60.
