Bronze Sox Topple Redbirds with Late Rally
|
The Memphis Redbirds got a superb performance from first baseman Júlio Coronado. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Texas. The Bronze Sox won the game, 8-5. In spite of the loss, Coronado was named the player of the game. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The win was credited to Ron Harris in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Wilford Barnes took the loss. The Bronze Sox go to 46-53, putting them 7th in the Premier AAA.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Dave Watts came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Memphis pitcher Wilford Barnes, he hit a 0-2 screwball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Texas on top, 6-5.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Watts said.
