The Tritons had to overcome a fine effort from Sacramento pitcher Gustavo Molina to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Jersey City Grounds. Molina went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Brian Gardner got the win, improving to 4-6. He held the Redlegs to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 4. Keith Johnson earned his 5th save in 5 tries.
The Tritons grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With two out, Steve Whitehead, who is tied for 4th in the PAAA in bases on balls with 34, hit a solo home run off Gustavo Molina, putting Jersey City in front, 3-0. For Whitehead, it was his 10th home run of the season.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Jersey City manager John McGrath.
The 8th-place Tritons have won 4 in a row.
