It wasn't easy but the Charleston Battery made it look that way.

Starter Miguel Angel Martínez shut out the Chicago Silver Sox despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Charleston Battery cruised to victory, 4-0. Martínez allowed only 5 hits and rang up 4 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

On his stats sheet for the year Martínez shows a 3-6 record, 10 starts, 64 innings, 32 strikeouts and a 5.77 ERA.
