Blue Sox Beat Thunder, 7-4
|
The Irving Blue Sox topped the St. Petersburg Thunder by the score of 7-4, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Daniel Page. Page was 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times for the Blue Sox. Jim Porter got the win, improving to 2-2. He held the Thunder to 4 earned runs on 4 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 6. Bob Bolen got credit for the save for Irving. It was his 4th of the year.
Rick Newell hit a 2-run double off Bill Tennant in the top of the second, which put the Blue Sox in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Newell had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Newell said.
The Blue Sox, with just their 6th win so far in 2041, have yet to catch fire.
