Goldobenko slugs 2 home runs, Brass Move to 5-1
|
The Baton Rouge Brass bested the Memphis Redbirds, 9-4, at Brass Field. Stephen Goldobenko was named player of the game. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Baton Rouge starter Mike Donovan was credited with the win after throwing 99 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. The save went to Grover Lowdermilk, his 2nd this season.
Tied up with the Redbirds in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Brass got a boost from left fielder Weston Doyle. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Doyle saw a 2-2 forkball from Cedomil Dudukovic and hit a 3-run home run to break the stalemate and put Baton Rouge on top, 6-3.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Goldobenko told the Baton Rouge Daily News. "It's as simple as that."
With the win, Baton Rouge goes to 5-1.
