The Richland Rails got a magnificent performance from pitcher Gary Podell, who muffled the Barton Springs offense en route to a tight 2-1 Rails win at Rails Ballpark. Richland, now 1-3, is off to a slow start.

Vinnie Nuyten had a big run-scoring single for the Rails in the bottom of the third inning. With Richland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from John Gaudet and stroked the single to left. It was his 3rd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rails ahead, 2-0.

"I found a nice groove out there," said Podell.
