Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Bloomington Longnecks were eager to watch Govaart van Ankeren square off against Josuke Okumura of the visiting Sacramento Redlegs. In the end, the Longnecks won the game, 4-2, with Govaart van Ankeren earning player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was van Ankeren, now 1-0. He tossed 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 9.

The Longnecks got a big at-bat from third baseman Dao-zi Zhan. For the game, Zhan was 1 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Bloomington a 1-0 lead.

"Feels good to get the job done," van Ankeren said after the game.
