Flyers Take Nail-Biter Over Fighting Dachsunds
|
Pennsauken overcame a superlative game from Jeff McDermott to beat Ellenburg, 5-4. The Ellenburg pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Pennsauken reliever José Salazar was the winner. His record is now 4-5. Jorge Veráquez took the loss. Pennsauken is now 54-46, Ellenburg 52-48.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Adam Wiltern came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing Ellenburg pitcher Jorge Veráquez, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pennsauken on top, 5-4.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Wiltern. "And not try to do too much."
