Victory Over Monsters Takes Salt Lake City to 58-36
|
The Salt Lake City Buzz beat the Monongahela Monsters, 8-3, at Spirits Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Vinnie Nuyten, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Salt Lake City reliever Javier Soto was credited with the win, to go to 9-4. Gabriel Durango took the loss for Monongahela. The first-place Buzz have a one-game lead in their division.
Giugliano in Campania, Italy-born Fontana Contaldo came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Buzz trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run single to left to put Salt Lake City on top.
In postgame comments to the Salt Lake City Today, Nuyten said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
