Evergreens Lose to Rainbow Mermaids, 2-1
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids got a strong performance from pitcher Nick Rollins, who stymied the Portland offense en route to a 2-1 win at Atlantica. Kent Randall picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-0. Gerald Orlebar was tagged with the loss. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto picked up the save for Northern Virginia, his 10th of the year.
Northern Virginia took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, designated hitter Xiao-yong Huang hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Huang told a Northern Virginia Today reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
After today's action, Northern Virginia sits at 14-19, while Portland falls to 16-17.
