Fighting Dachsunds Win at Monongahela, 5-1
|
The Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds picked up a win at Timber Hawks Ballpark, knocking off the Monongahela Monsters, 5-1. Starting pitcher Darwin Watson, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Watson, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. The 9th-place Fighting Dachsunds raised their record to 10-16.
Ellenburg relied on the bat of Chet Clifton to get the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Fighting Dachsunds ahead, 2-1. For the game, Clifton had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Clifton. "And not try to do too much."
