Patriots Prevail, 3-1, Over Northern Virginia
The Boston Patriots picked up a win at Dunkin Donuts Park, knocking off the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 3-1. On the mound for Boston was right-hander Firpo Marberry, who played a pivotal role in the win. Marberry got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 7 hits and walked 1 over 7.2 innings. Marberry allowed 1 earned run. Jorge Gil nailed down his 1st save.

The Rainbow Mermaids had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Patriots going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old second baseman Chris Fitzgerald came to the plate. Fitzgerald hit a 2-run single on a 1-0 fastball from Northern Virginia hurler Nick Rollins. It was Fitzgerald's 2nd hit of the year.

"I liked his command," said Boston manager Tyler Carter. "Firpo was throwing strikes."

Things have gone south in a hurry for the defending champion Patriots, who notched only their 1st win in 3 games.
