Late Rally by Mockingbirds Secures Win
|
The Mississippi Mockingbirds defeated the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 3-2, in United States Premier League action at Atlantica, with Mississippi pitcher César Sandoval named player of the game. Earning his 4th save for Mississippi was Sima Babic. Mississippi is now 12-15, Northern Virginia 12-15.
Had Melvin Thomas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Thomas hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Mockingbirds.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Thomas. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
