Black Mambas Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The Hartford Pride got a superb performance from center fielder Chip Mullaney. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Austin. The Black Mambas won the game, 7-5. In spite of the loss, Mullaney was named the player of the game. He went 1 for 1 with a home run, a walk, and was hit 2 times. He scored 2 runs. Patrick Ibáñez picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 1-0. Bobby Roode closed it out for his 1st save.
Austin used the timely hitting of José González to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put the Black Mambas on top, 4-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," González said after the game.
The Black Mambas have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 1st win in 4 games.
