Bangert on Fire: 5-for-7 for Ft. Worth
Wednesday, September 5th, 2040
Even as a kid, Derek Bangert said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Nashville Stadium today, Bangert showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 34-year-old first baseman had 5 hits in 7 at-bats for the Ft. Worth Cattlemen, helping his team knock off the Nashville Outlaws by a score of 26-13.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today."
Derek Bangert flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, struck out in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
In his stats this season, Bangert has posted a batting average of .276 with 85 hits in 308 at-bats, 19 home runs and 56 RBIs. He has also scored 47 runs, walked 40 times and compiled a .372 OBP.
