Warriors Hammered by Kramer, Drop Game 1 to Halberds
|
The Alloway Halberds started the SL AAA Championship in dominant fashion today, blowing out the host Forest City Warriors at League Park by a score of 11-3 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Halberds third baseman Pat Kramer was named player of the game as he was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4.
Alloway used the timely hitting of Duff Eckstein to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Halberds on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Ever since we qualified for the playoffs, the guys have been razzing me about how I'm going to embarrass myself out there," the rookie Kramer said with a smile. "I'm glad to prove them wrong, at least for a day."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow. Slated to start are Carlos Simon for the Alloway Halberds and Buzzy Grossman for the the Forest City Warriors.
