Ballard Beavers manager Edgardo Álvarez knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 19-year-old left-hander Bill Zimmerman silenced the host Twinsburg Tigers at Dodge Field today. The Beavers shut out the Tigers by a final score of 4-0, to give the Beavers a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-5 SL R Championship.

Zimmerman, the Ballard left-hander, went 6.1 innings, allowing no earned runs on 5 hits. He collected 8 strikeouts.

"We're happy," Zimmerman told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
