Pivotal Game Goes to Host Coeur, 2-1
|
The St. Louis Coeur started the Third League Championship in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Cleveland Browns in a walk-off in the 11th inning. St. Louis took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Ralph Greer. The left-hander threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Coeur a - lead to start the best-of- series.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Qing-nian Zexian came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Cleveland pitcher Eric Matson, he hit a 2-2 knuckleball for a solo home run. It was a game-changer, putting St. Louis on top, 2-1.
"That was fun but I'll be happy with a nice, safe win next time," St. Louis manager Scott McMahon said.
