Rainbow Mermaids Hammered by Soto, Fall Further Behind in R1
On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids team, the Portland Evergreens had a tough assignment. Fernando Soto delivered.

The Evergreens right fielder was unstoppable for the visitors, as he was 5 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 3 singles. He scored 3 times in guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 9-0. Soto, 22, was named player of the game for his efforts. The win means Portland now trails - in the best-of- series.

Portland needed the clutch hitting of Kameron Guangorena to notch the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Evergreens on top, 4-0. For the game, Guangorena had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"We're feeling good about this," said Evergreens manager Brandon Slouck. "We have got an advantage now and we just need to keep the pressure on."
