Northern Virginia right fielder Rob Brooks was the key at Great Northern Field today, being named player of the game as he powered the Rainbow Mermaids to victory in a critical Game of the Round 1. The Rainbow Mermaids took the 7-4 win over the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC to seize a - lead in the best-of- series.

Brooks turned the game around in the top of the seventh. That's when the Northern Virginia right fielder dialed up a 3-run home run. Just like that, Northern Virginia's 4-3 deficit turned into a 6-4 lead.

"We're happy," Brooks told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
