Hodge, Long Island Open Third League Championship with Win

Game was big. So was Greg Hodge.
In leading Long Island to a crucial 7-3 victory over the San Mateo Dirty Reds at The Lighthouse today, the Long Island starter rose to the occasion, tossing 7 good innings and earning player of the game honors. Hodge threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball as the Lighthouse defended their home field to seize a - lead in the best-of- Third League Championship.
Had Carlos Mendoza not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Mendoza hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Lighthouse.
"We haven't stopped playing," San Mateo manager Dean Ashley said. "We didn't get this far to give up."
