Thrice as Nice: Montana On Verge of Sweep after Walk-off Win
|
The Montana Pandas needed some late heroics to do it, but ultimately emerged one game away from the Round 2 today. The Pandas needed 12 innings before taking the 6-5 win against the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids in a walk-off at Panda Park. Montana first baseman Jimbob Ghostkeeper was named player of the game after he was 2 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The win gives the Pandas a - advantage in the best-of- Third League Championship.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Shimei Miura came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing Northern Virginia pitcher Yoriyoshi Sugimoto, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montana on top, 6-5.
In postgame comments, Miura said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
