Late Rally by Voodoo Secures Win
|
The Portland Evergreens got a superb performance from pitcher Robert Smalls. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New Orleans. The Voodoo won the game, 6-4. In spite of the loss, Smalls was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. New Orleans reliever Ted Chong picked up the win to move to 2-0. Ron Mingo suffered the loss. Grover Lowdermilk finished to wrap up his 3rd save.
New Orleans used the timely hitting of Derek Corbin to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Voodoo on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said New Orleans manager Chase Sims.
With the loss, Portland is 8-9.
