Mockingbirds Rally For Late Win Over Dirty Reds
|
Mississippi and San Mateo duked it out at Lang Park and the Mockingbirds came out victorious.
San Mateo right fielder Tom Burton was sensational. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Mississippi beat the Dirty Reds, 9-6. Burton was named the player of the game despite the loss. Mississippi reliever Marcos Oquendo was the winner. His record is now 1-3. The losing pitcher was Barney Starr. An Jang-Yop earned the save, his 10th.
This game was not decided until Jesús Vargas came to bat in the top of the ninth. With a runner on 3rd and two out, the Mississippi right fielder struck out. The Mockingbirds took the lead, 7-6.
"I felt good up there," said Vargas. "I saw the ball well."
The Mockingbirds now have a record of 30-24.
