Shooters Rally For Late Win Over Fighting Imps
|
Springfield Stadium was the site of a exceptional pitchers' duel.
The Springfield Shooters picked up a win at Springfield Stadium, knocking off the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 2-1. Starting pitcher Steve Gourin was an essential part of his team's success. Springfield reliever Rob Durnford picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. Jimmy Whitney was saddled with the loss.
Nathan Nelson was the walk-off hero for Springfield. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Shooters right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Springfield skipper Martin Richards. "I can't complain."
The last-place Fighting Imps have lost 7 straight games.
