Virginia withstood an impressive performance by Crescent City second baseman Jamy Geertsen to defeat the Krewe, 5-4, at Field of the Krewe. Geertsen hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner was Virginia reliever Doug Lane, now 1-0. The loser was Lee Tucker. Earning his 6th save for Virginia was Salim Fakhir.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder John Ryan came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Crescent City pitcher Lee Tucker, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Virginia on top, 5-4.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Ryan told reporters after the game.

The second-place Palladium Sox now have a win-loss record of 42-28.
