Ki-seop Ch'oe never let the Beavers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Snowpeople to a 3-1 win. Ch'oe picked up the win for Ellesmere Island, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 6-7. Aberto Gaddi was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 14 save opportunities.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Snowpeople sent teenager Bernard Cornwell to the plate against Beavers hurler Bill Zimmerman. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 2-0 cutter to score 1.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Ellesmere Island skipper Hartmann Riedman.
Ellesmere Island occupies 8th place in the Silver R at 35-46.
