Canucks Throttle Cougars, 5-1
|
Hillandale Grounds was the site for USSL Rookie action featuring the Valley View Cougars and Moose Jaw Canucks.
The Moose Jaw Canucks picked up a win at Hillandale Grounds, knocking off the Valley View Cougars, 5-1. Starting pitcher Tony De Jesús played a key role in the triumph. De Jesús, now 2-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 earned run.
Moose Jaw used the clutch hitting of Jack Morton to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Canucks the lead, 2-1. For the game, Morton had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"What we get, we earn," Morton told the Moose Jaw Daily News.
Even with the win, the Canucks have a dismal 15-43 record.
