Cougars Get Win, Extend Streak to 5
|
The Cougars grabbed a win, 8-4, at Lawmen Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Franklin pitcher Ari Heinonen. Heinonen went 5.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Guillermo Quiñones was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Losses have been rare for the Fire, who are now 10-3.
Walt Reed had a big 2-run single for the Cougars in the top of the first inning. With Valley View leading 3-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a cutter from Kwan-yew Khu and stroked the single to right-center. It was his 14th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cougars ahead, 5-0.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Valley View manager Francisco Villanueva.
