Victory Pushes Centennial Record to 23-16
|
The Fort Knox Centennial topped the Long Island Ducks, 3-1, in USPL Rookie action at Ballpark of Baxter. The player of the game was Fort Knox pitcher and East Meadow, New York native Jorge Martínez. The 'W' lifts Fort Knox's record to 23-16.
Juan Lugo had a big 2-run single for the Centennial in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Fort Knox leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from Ian Carr and stroked the single to left. It was his 43rd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Centennial ahead, 3-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Fort Knox manager Jesús Román said.
