Cajuns Come Up Short at Surprise
|
Surprise right-hander Jean Mercier helped his team edge Crowley by the score of 2-1. Mercier kept the opposing lineup in check. Mercier got the win, improving to 4-2. He allowed 10 hits and walked 0 over 6.1 innings. Mercier allowed 1 earned run. Petr Elfimov closed the game out for Surprise, earning his 5th save.
With runs few and far between, the Shockers had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Surprise came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when third baseman Dong-min Ch'oe delivered a run-scoring double. The double was hit off Blaise Tonetti and made the score 2-1, Shockers. Ch'oe was 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Shockers manager . "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Surprise has now won 4 straight.
