The South Beach Blaze took Chicago pitcher Hakumele Apelama's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Little Gold Sox Park. The final score had South Beach getting past the Gold Sox, 5-4. Apelama went 7 innings and allowed 4 earned runs, striking out 8. South Beach reliever José Gómez got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Daryl Dwyer was tagged with the loss. Chicago has now lost 4 straight.

It could have been a different outcome for South Beach, had it not been for Rob Murdoch, the 21-year old shortstop . Murdoch contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put South Beach up, 5-4.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Chicago manager Allen Evans. "But we decided not to take it."
