South Beach pitcher Charles McElroy did his part in helping his team beat the Eugene Vandals, 7-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The win was credited to Mang Zhong in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Esteban Vásquez took the loss. The Blaze, at 24-13, lead by one game in their division.
Rob Murdoch, who is tied for 2nd in the PA in stolen bases with 9, aided the South Beach cause with a 2-run triple in the top of the fourth. For the game, the shortstop was 2 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," McElroy told the South Beach Gazette.
