Airmen Edge Past Expos, 4-3
|
The Alameda Airmen overcame a good performance by Niagara Falls first baseman Dave Vansant to knock off Niagara Falls, 4-3, at Alameda Field. Vansant went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The save went to Steven Evans, his 4th this season. The Airmen go to 42-40, putting them 6th in the Silver A.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Alfredo Pliego came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Niagara Falls pitcher Manuel Sánchez, he hit a 2-2 curveball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Alameda on top, 4-3.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Alameda manager Juan Salinas.
