Torch Defeat Expos, 10-5
|
Joe Havermeyer was instrumental in his team's 10-5 triumph over the Niagara Falls Expos. The left fielder was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Mancelona Torch. Mancelona goes to 43-38, Niagara Falls to 20-61.
Had Bill Wells not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Wells hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Torch.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Havermeyer.
