Storm Nip Torch, 3-2
|
The Mancelona Torch got a superb performance from pitcher Bryan Workman. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Syracuse. The Storm won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Workman was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Syracuse reliever Nate Flores picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Darrell Bannatyne was saddled with the loss. King Joseph locked down his 3rd save.
Syracuse used the bat of Zak Makepeace to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Storm ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Makepeace told a Syracuse Times reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
With the win over Mancelona, the Storm improved to 10-15.
