Big Day by Heredice Ignites Airmen Win
|
Alameda third baseman Héctor Heredice had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Kent Comets, 7-1. Vas Atepko, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Comets to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The Comets, now 5-9, continue their poor start.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the eighth inning when the Airmen sent 22-year-old catcher Mike Thompson to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a sacrifice fly, to put Alameda on top, 3-1.
"We take it day by day here," said Thompson, "and today was a good one for us."
