Hawks Stymie Niagara Falls, Take 3-1 Win

The Laredo Hawks racked up a win at Hawks Field, bumping off the Niagara Falls Expos, 3-1. Daryl Benstead, who started for Laredo, pitched effectively for his team. Laredo reliever John Stevens picked up the win to move to 2-0. Enrique García suffered the loss. Javier Iturburua recorded his 3rd save for Laredo.
Had Quitério Ruah not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Ruah hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Hawks.
"I like our mindset right now," said Laredo manager Leonardo Sánchez.
Laredo, now 7-4, has played well in the early going.
