Late Rally by Torch Secures Win
The Torch had to overcome a fine effort from Syracuse pitcher Steve Young to grab a narrow 4-2 win at Torch Field. Young went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Mancelona reliever Tom Johnson picked up the win to move to 1-0. Steve Young suffered the loss. With the win, Mancelona boosts its record to 1-2.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Obiniana Romulo came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Syracuse pitcher King Joseph, he hit a 2-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Mancelona on top, 3-2.

"We did enough to win," said Romulo.
