Northern Virginia right-hander Ricardo García helped his team edge Hollywood by the score of 2-1. García kept the opposing lineup in check. In 8 innings, García surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. At 51-55, the Rainbow Mermaids are currently 8th in the Premier League.
Steve Whitehead had a big run-scoring single for the Rainbow Mermaids in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Northern Virginia leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Lloyd Natoff and stroked the single to right. It was his 62nd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 2-0.
In postgame comments to the Northern Virginia Times, García said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
