Jake Newton could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Chesapeake Continentals lost, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Ithaca Fighting Imps at Chesapeake Grounds. Reliever Alberto Cruz picked up the win. His record improves to 1-2. Jake Newton took the loss. Ithaca is now 17-31.
It could have been a different outcome for Ithaca, had it not been for Everett Garland, the 25-year old second baseman . Garland contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the sixth inning to put Ithaca up, 2-0.
In postgame comments, Garland told the Ithaca Today: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
