|
Westwood first baseman Illarion Podmarkov was instrumental in his team's 5-3 win over the Chesapeake Continentals. Podmarkov, who is tied for 5th in the PAA in runs scored with 22, went 2-4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Sixshooters. José Díaz closed the game out for Westwood, earning his 10th save. Westwood now sits at 21-13, while Chesapeake falls to 18-16.
Westwood took a 4-3 lead on Podmarkov's 9th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Shaun Stroud in the top of the seventh, propelled Westwood to the win.
In postgame comments to the Westwood Herald, Podmarkov said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
