Ballard Goes Off, But Thunder Hawks Win
|
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks had to overcome a big game from Mercer Island third baseman Byron Ballard to leave Mercer Island Grounds with a 8-6 victory. Ballard was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. With the loss, Mercer Island sinks to 8-9.
Ft. Polk South used the clutch hitting of António Etxebarria to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to give the Thunder Hawks the lead, 7-5. For the game, Etxebarria had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Etxebarria, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
